I believe in Santa Claus...

...and I believe in love
Christmas Eve 1998 when love, scents of the holidays, laughter, and comraderie permeated Le Casa. This casual holiday get together, where denim was the uniform of the day, just happened to include a wedding.
Does any wedding go off without a hitch? I don't think so and ours was no exception. Because it was so cold in TX (about 20 degrees) our minister had to work late (he moonlights as a prison guard) and didn't have time to change clothes as he came straight from work, so we decided to party first. Whoever made the rules that it was wedding first and reception next? Not only was it kinda unique, but everybody was pretty relaxed by the time Ron got there.
Just before the ceremony we called my sis, Cookie, in Florida and handed the phone to Ron Hill so she could be a part of everything. Because we had a home wedding and the house built in 1927 is not a big one we invited just a few guests. Everyone there was someone special to us.
Ron's ceremony was so personal and challenging that I think everyone was misty-eyed by the time it was finished and for once in my life I found it difficult to speak. Despite being temporarily vocally challenged I asked all the guests to extend our circle of love and include the newest members, my husband, Terry, and his father, Asa, as everyone joined hands for the benediction.
Since both of us had been married before, we appreciated Ron's comment: "You've saved the best for last".
We thank each one of you for sharing our joy -- whether you were with us in person or joined us in spirit, your thoughts and good wishes are very much appreciated as we begin a new era of our lives.

Our Promise:

  • Love
  • Support
  • Loyalty
  • Compassion
  • Friendship
  • All our tomorrows

  • The principal players...

Minister: Rev Ron Hill (motivational speaker, prison guard, author, and God's Speaker of the House for Texas)
Best Man: Asa Choate (Terry's Dad from Washington)
Terry Burnham Choate and Judie Louise Bright (I guess that's a given here)

WaSha attended as "Best Cat" Judie & Terry and Marilyn

Twas the night before Christmas and all thru the house
Everyone was a twitter, well except one small mouse.
Weather was cold, not the usual Texas fare,
Clear and crisp, this Christmas Eve air

La Casa, we'd chosen to decorate white
it seems most appropriate for our special night
The candles glowed warm, the fireplace ablaze
The tree was a dream we had worked on for days
There were lights all aglow and pearls draped around
with doves, white poinsettias, and a tinsel surround

Marilyn was bustling with food front and back,
she's truly the angel that kept me on track
    Jenny, concerned with warm hands
made sure all was ready for new wedding bands.

Asa (Pop) was cool and ready to party
said, "If this is Texas, ya gotta be hardy"
His eyes how they twinkled, his grin was so merry
as he passed along stories to help calm down Terry
Hmmm, Terry was nervous and smoking non-stop
Spent time on the porch taking 'structions from Pop

Food tasty and ample and a holiday cake,
the best part was...not mine to bake
The small wedding feast spread over two tables
with this old house, where would we hide cables?
Cause Brenda would be here and though a social event
her Safety Managerial skills never are bent

Ron Hill, bless his heart, worked up to the minute
Then scuttled to town with uniform and him in it
I've always done things unique or avantgarde
so what was different about a preacher in prison garb?
Sis Cookie in Florida, met all through Ma Bell
Ron checked with her often 'case there was somethin' to tell.

We laughed when he told a story on us
and listened intently as he cited our "musts"
Tears glistened on cheeks as a parable he shared
with everyone there...for whom we loved and cared
I'll always remember the committment...the meaning
of Ron's words and our vows on this blessed evening.

If you were there in person or only in spirit
our thanks for your love and you often will hear it.
This evening was so special and sped by so fast
    But truly we have......
    "Saved the best for last"
